more adventures in spinning...
so, you may already know that i have a spinning wheel, but here's pictures of my first skein of yarn on it:
its a thick and thin marled (thats the name for this color effect) yarn. the grey came out fairly even but the white was harder to work with so its got all these big chunks and skinny bits. and why is that? the white was combed top while the grey was pin-drafted roving. why is this important? in combed top, all the fibers have been put in a specific direction and the kink in the individual fibers kind of locks them together. i feel special for knowing this.
next saturday i'm taking a class on how to prepare raw fleece for spinning so i'll get to learn more about it. fun times!
